Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This means them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
